The Deal to End the Great Depression

Franklin D. Roosevelt had a big idea to end the terrible Great Depression in America. The Great Depression started when the stock market crashed and many people lost their money, and needed financial help desperately. The Great Depression lasted from 1929 until the start of World War II. When Herbert Hoover was president the United States was a disaster from the depression. To fix the problem came a new president, Franklin Roosevelt (FDR).

FDR had an idea that could bring the United States out of depression. This idea was called the New Deal. The New Deal was a series of domestic programs enacted in the USA starting in 1933 and is still going now.

The benefits in the New Deal included: focus on relief for the unemployed and poor, recovery for the economy to allow it to get back to normal, and reform to fix the financial system so times like the Great Depression don’t re-occur.

For example, the Federal Emergency Relief Administration provided $500 million for relief operations by states and cities. The Securities Act of 1933 also was enacted to prevent a repeated stock market crash. The New Deal was a great plan to end The Great Depression here in America, created by Franklin D Roosevelt.
