Who’s Who in the George Milton Trial: Crooks

Who is He?

Crooks aged 43 and born in Southern California is involved in the trial of George Milton. Crooks is an African American farmer on the Tyler Ranch, and personally knew George Milton and Lennie Small since the day they arrived. Crooks has been working on the farm for 24 years.  

 

How is he involved?

Crooks was heavily involved with the case of George Milton because he was a fellow worker with the victim, Lennie, and the killer, George. Crooks doesn’t associate himself as one of George’s best friends, but he did know about their future dreams and hopes. He also knew Lennie well and enjoyed his company. Due to racisim Crooks lives the barn, he claims that he was very lonely and would talk to almost anyone to have the pleasure of human interaction. Crooks described Milton and Small as brothers to each other. When Crooks heard Lennie was shot he said he was furious that he was killed. Crooks said that he was utterly shocked that Milton killed Small, especially after witnessing their close relationship. Crooks claims that he believed that George was trying to protect Lennie. Crooks and others are very anxious of how George Milton’s trial will play out.
