Who's Who in George Milton Trial: Frank Small

By Bobby Dolan

Who is he?

Frank Small is the cousin of Lennie and a key aspect in the George Milton trial.  Frank is 42 years old and is from Auburn, California.  He runs a hardware store and was never at the Tyler Ranch but knows a lot about the relationship between George and Lennie.  He has known Lennie since he was born and had looked after him many times.

How is he involved?

In the George Milton trial, Frank Small is defending George. He says that George should not go to jail because he clearly did not kill Lennie. Frank is familiar with the relationship between Lennie and George and says that George loved and truly cared for Lennie. Frank recalls that when he had to go off to the military, George stepped in and really started to act as a caretaker for Lennie. According to Frank, Lennie and George traveled everywhere together and had a really strong friendship.  Frank said George cared very much for Lennie. He stated, “George and Lennie were friends and George would not hurt Lennie unless there was a really good reason.”  Frank said there are other people that could have killed Lennie. Apparently Lennie was the murder suspect in the reported murder of Mrs. Tyler.  There could have been other people that wanted to seek revenge for this murder and could have killed him themselves.  Knowing the loving relationship that Lennie and George had, it’s unimaginable for Frank Small to believe that George Milton is responsible for this murder.
