Gardening and Home Decor for Hard Times

Even when times are hard, beautiful homes and gardens are still possible to achieve with a low price.

Gardening:

Gardening is a great way to relieve stress and an inexpensive way to make sure your family eats well, by growing your own food. Seeds can be bought very cheaply and will eventually grow into enjoyable food or flowers for your loved ones to cherish.

Not enough space for a backyard garden? That's okay! Window boxes can still hold many plants and are perfect for spicing up a dull home. Speaking of dull homes, here are some tips to help you decorate your house in a cheap and creative way.

Home decor:

  • If you feel enclosed in your house as if there's no way out, you can try moving your furniture away from the walls and into an open space. This eliminates the boxy feeling and is a simple change that’ll leave you feeling refreshed.

  • Old furniture is not a problem, look for single pieces that have been discontinued, you’re guaranteed to find a discounted item that is good as new. You can also fix up your furniture by just using old clothes, scissors and a staple gun. Patch up the holes, fancy up the pattern and your aged pieces are good as new!

  • Another idea for decorating your home is to upscale your items. An old shutter can be transformed into a beautiful headboard. Taking the legs from a table or nightstand and hanging them up will give you welcoming coat hangers.

One Last Thing:

Reuse every container… you've EVER purchased. This includes clementine boxes, strawberry pints and old cans. Flip these items with a can of paint or ink to make them into everyday usable items like pencil holders or any other home organizer.

Using these tips, you can make your house look modern and new with a price that won’t go over your budget.

Happy decorating!
