Crime and Violence During The Great Depression

America has recently had a stock market crash that has caused a huge economic crisis in this country. People are calling it the Great Depression. Crime rates have increased, and people have lost their jobs and don't have enough money to live. It has also forced many middle class citizens into poverty for the first time in their lives. Crowd violence in the form of food riots and unemployment protests of the early years of the Depression has given way to labor strikes and violent clashes with troops and law authorities. The government has also banned alcohol, making people start to illegally make their own. But it has turned out that due to this prohibition, alcoholism has increased with Americans seeking outlets for escape. In fact, suicide rate have risen during the Great Depression.
